Report Of Avabai Wadia Award Function
The Avabai Wadia Award Function for the first time after receiving donation in 2007 ,was held on 4th Jan 2010 at 4.00 p.m. at Shahaji Raje Bhosle Krida Sankul. The function was attended by members of all the Constituent Branches of AIWC, Mumbai Branch. The programme was compered by Smt. Meera Gandhi, President of Khar Branch, AIWC. The prayer was sung by Smt. Harsha Ladhani and Smt. Urvashi Shukla. Mumbai branch President welcomed everybody and said few words about Dr. Avabai Wadia.

The Chief Guest for the function was Smt. Gomathi Nair, President AIWC. The other guests were Smt. Shobhana Ranade, our Patron, Smt. Shivani Mehta, Secretary General AIWC and Smt. Asha Deshpande, Treasurer AIWC. Dr. Dhairyabala Vora gave a talk about Smt. Avabai Wadia and her service to the society, her achievement in pioneering Family Planning programmes. Her contribution and guidance to AIWC will be remembered by all. Smt. Shobhana Ranade, our Patron shared her experiences with Smt. Avabai Wadia. All the guests and speakers were felicitated with bouquets and token gifts.

Smt. Shakuntala Parekhji our Advisory board member and Vice President, Education Committee and member Smt. Avabai Wadia Award Committee gave an introduction of the Speakers Dr. Satish Modh, Dy. General Manager, Business Transformation Group ,Air India and Shri Himanshu Prem Joshi, Environmentalist.

Dr. Satish Modh spoke about the various Disasters. He explained how one, as an individual or as a team, could render his services at a time of a disaster. He highlighted the importance of Home Insurance, storing important papers and documents handy. Phone numbers of a friend or a relative who can convey the message to people who can render immediate help.

Shri Himanshu Prem Joshi spoke about the ratio of plants to population in different wards of Mumbai. He, further, mentioned that the suburbs were far better than the south Mumbai. Thus the felling of trees should be stopped and the tree plantation should be encouraged.

Smt. Devyani Kulkarni our trustee and member Avabai Wadia Award Committee announced the names of the winners. The winners were as follows:

1st Prize Jogeshwari Branch Rs.30,000/-
2nd Prize Khar Branch Rs.25,000/-
3rd Prize Gulmohar Branch Rs.20,000/-
Consolation Prizes -
1. Vile Parle Branch Rs.5,000/-
2. Bhandup Branch Rs.5,000/-
Amongst the Sub-Committees The Education Committee won a 1st Prize of Rs.30,000/-.

All prize winners were given a trophy as a recognition of their good work. Our Chief Guest Smt. Gomathi Nair addressed the audience and showered her blessings on them. Smt. Shobhana Ranade then expressed her joy for having been invited for the function and blessed the audience.

Our President, AIWC, Mumbai Branch Smt. Sheela Kakde expressed her congratulations to all the winners and wished them to continue their work. She appreciated the work of all the Branches.

Dr. Urmila Vakil, trustee AIWC member, Avabai Wadia Award gave the vote of thanks. The function concluded with National Anthem.
