Street Children Project ‘Shraddha’
   
         
     

SHRADDHA Street children project is one of the four projects of Mumbai branch AIWC started on 2nd October, 1996. The Centre is situated at Hasnabad Muncipal School, Khar (W) Mumbai. It is a day care centre for the street children aged between 5 to 16 years. The schedule of the day is fixed from 10 a.m. to 5-30 p.m., closed on Sundays and bank holidays.

Every day’s attendance is 35 to 40 Children.

Most of them go to Municipal School and private school and small children get non-formal education at the centre.

Every month medical check-up is conducted and as a follow up necessary prescribed medicines, vitamins and tonics are given regularly. For serious ailments they are treated in public hospitals. Special efforts are made to imbibe the concept of personal hygiene in them.

Considering the nutritional requirement home made lunch, snacks, fruits and milk is provided.

The main aim of Shraddha project is to make these children the responsible citizens of India. After a survey we decided to start Vocational training programme. Apart from making ‘Diyas’ Rakhi, greeting cards, the centre started conducting classes for adolescent boys and girls of the centre and for the near by slums teaching electric welding, making jewellery, embroidery, tailoring. These courses were conducted by ‘Shramic Vidyapith’ same boys were sent to the professional training schools like car-driving, elevator mechanics etc.

Celebrating national and religious festivals, sports, yoga, film shows, competitions, picnics are some of the means of entertainment for them.

Two street plays are on drug addiction and another on child labour are played by Shraddha Children to create awareness in public places like railway stations, market places etc. They also perform in various organization and is appreciated a lot.

SHRADDHA is financially supported by philanthropists by giving corpus donations of any amount where the interest is used for day to day activities of the centre. The donation of Rs. 800/- to 1000/- which is utilised for full day expenses or lunch expenses of any special day as per the instruction of the donor. The donations for the project are exempted under section 80 G of Income Tax Act1996. (no. 1591/2007/valid upto 31.3.2011.)
